Kultur Shock

SELDOM IS A
band more traveled and their sound more diverse than "Alien of Exceptional Abilities" – okay, that’s not the band’s real name. That’s what the INS called Gino – Kultur Shock’s lead singer – when he emigrated to the US in 1997. He’s a former Yugoslavian pop star and a Serb. Guitarist Mario is a Bosnian Croat. Val, on rhythm guitar defected from Bulgaria. The band’s bassist, Masa is from Japan. You get the idea. You need a world atlas to track these musicians and their musical roots. Throw into the mix, Amy on sax (and accordion?) and Chris with a love for Latin beats and the band’s style almost defies definition. Produced by former Faith No More bassist Billy Gould and recorded by Jack Endino, the band enjoys doing it their distinctive way.
