MOSCOW IS AS
far away from Seattle as one can get. But music travels well. Russian signer Inna Zhelannaya is Russia's most well-known singer-songwriter and one of the voices of The Farlanders. Together with Sergey Starostin (vocals and clarinet) , Sergey Klevensky (flutes and woodwinds), Sergey Kalachev (bass) and drummer Pavel Timofeev, they produce some of the most unique sounds to cross the Ural Mountains -- or any other mountain. Erie, beautiful, haunting, melodic. Many of their instruments are homemade, one of a kind. And they produce a one of a kind sound. Which is why The Farlanders’ music opens the movie, Lost on the B Side. An indie film about indie music shot in Seattle. As these Russian stars prove, it is a small world after all.
