WITH ALL-ACOUSTIC instrumentation, vintage suits, and 30’s-era single microphone,Captain Gravel could be mistaken as “just another bluegrass band." Until they start to play. The eclectic tastes of the five members do not stop with trad-itional bluegrass. At Captain Gravel shows, audiences may dance to Binkle Roberts' banjo-driven Dixieland jazz, or to the original songs and instrumentals of mandolin player Miller McNay. Michael Connolly invariably breaks a few bow hairs playing fiery fiddle tunes, Chad Gibson offers smooth vocals and lightning-fast guitar flatpicking, and Ingrid Eyen holds it all together on the upright bass, dancing while she plays and sings some of her own songs. Captain Gravel delivers original songs, traditional tunes, and five-part vocal harmonies with energy and charisma.
